Langmu Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist temple located in China's Gansu Province, which is just north of Qinghai Province, just north of Tibet. The name literally means the fairy temple, and it is said that a fairy lived there in a tiger cave.
Liang and her friends, touring the area, met the little seven year old girl, in the painting, who was fascinated by their modern dress and, while shy about taking to them, finally warmed up and told them of her dream to someday attend the university in the big city. She also lamented about how transportation, education and opportunity were limited in the western Tibetan regions of China.
