In painting, Lena h. Coms’ approach consists in using the canvas as a theatrical space. The body is most often limited to its face : in the tradition of the theatre of masks or of the icon, sometimes similar to a mortuary mask. The mythological and biblical subjects, most often explore the figures of wounded men and of fatal women grappling with doubts and sufferings of their history. She is very interested in the guilt to which our Judeo-Christian society pushes us. Why did Eve choose to take the apple, why did Salome ask for the head of Saint John the Baptist? Don’t current policies lead us to contradictory behaviour? And yet, we continue to build a world, to raise children because we have the faith, the strength to carry out crazy projects.

Léna h. coms also practices theatre writing and poetry (in french) : her writing works oscillate between performance, staging and artist books. In addition to this visual and textual research, there are also textile practices. Lena h. coms explores the finesse of knit-lace and needle work. These patient arts allow her to connect her various works with each other in artitistic installations to create a link between people.
