Kristsina Khramaya is a contemporary Belarusian painter born in Minsk in 1994. Early in her artistic career, she used the pseudonym HROMYS, under which she created her works from 2017 to 2021. In 2022, she adopted the name CHROMA as a tribute to her heritage, reflecting her family's historical change of surname during the Russification process in 1948. This shift in pseudonym represents her desire to bridge the past with the present.
Khramaya's paintings explore the concept of freedom, particularly through the depiction of the nude body. She uses the nude form as a symbol to express feelings and emotions, aiming to liberate art from censorship and challenge stereotypes and prejudices associated with the human body. Her work seeks to illustrate that freedom can transcend boundaries and exist in various forms of self-expression.
In addition to her focus on freedom, Khramaya delves into the connection between the inner and outer worlds. Through her art, she examines how inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions manifest in one's external appearance and interactions with the surrounding environment.
