This is a silly photograph of my mother, Eileen Larmee (née Feeley) taken by a street photographer in Venice circa 1932. My mother was around 18 and her "Aunt Mae" (Mae Fealy) took her abroad on one of her annual shopping trips to Europe (Mae was the chief jewelry buyer for Lord & Taylor). My mother was raised modestly in New York City by her single mother (Bess Feeley, née Astin) who did clerical work in New York. Mae (the sister of my mother's father) was very successful, and "adopted" my mother and her mother, providing clothes, travel, vacations, and schooling to my mother. Mae was a huge influence on my mother, and thus on myself and my siblings.
