The worrk of Joy Zemel Long is based in a soliid tradition of French painting reaching back to post-Impressionism. She studied in Montreal and has exhibited widely in the U.SS and Canada..
Her work is based on the figure and is set in domestic situations invoking Matisse and Vuillard. She also absorbed the influences of Pop and hard edge painting in the 1960's. Her works address mother and daughter relationships, domesticity , her Jewish heritage
and the life which surrounds her seadie hoome in West Vancouver.
