Joanna Morani is a contemporary artist - painter and sculptor. She is inspired by Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese aesthetic philosophy that not only accepts imperfection but celebrates it and reverse natural authenticity. Her artworks are made entirely of organic materials, pure natural pigments, wood, glue and water, transformed into art through an intense physical process in which chance and experiment ultimately play an important role.
These monochromatic relief paintings ultimately also arise due to the artist's fascination for untouched nature and the natural process of creation. Emerging from a more or less uncontrolled process, Morani's paintings ultimately embody randomness that has taken shape, non-control, ultimately also due to the passage of time. After several weeks, rough, jagged, cracked relief surfaces emerge from a mixture of pure colors, wood, and glue. These surfaces expose her paintings, which resemble topographic relief maps and aerial images of ancient, untamed nature.
