As a master of the art of affichism, Jilda was born in Brittany, amidst the rosy hues of the Pink Granite Coast. He currently resides and creates his masterpieces in the city of Nantes. His artistic process involves a constant exploration of the medium, as he composes, decomposes, pastes, and peels posters collected during his daily meanderings and travels abroad. In so doing, he continues to carry forward the legacy of the new realist poster artists of the 1950s and 1960s.With a tireless spirit, Jilda traverses cities both near and far, seeking out new and layered posters, weathered by the elements and the passage of time. These impressions of the streets are then meticulously captured, and subsequently rendered in his works. He meticulously selects his materials, fragmenting and tearing them with a blade to collect them for further use. In his studio, he meticulously dissects the advertisements, separating the layers of paper to obtain his material, and thus crafting his urban color palette. With these fragments and tears of paper plucked from the urban landscape, Jilda transcribes his vision of the street, as if to memorialize the urban life of today. The human face, a figurative element that he adds with a stencil or his photographs, serves as the central focus of the composition in his work. Through the manipulation of the fortuitous discoveries of the different layers of advertising paper, the faces encountered the slogans, typography and the omnipresent signs, creating a visual narrative that is both rich and evocative.
