Hard Love (2018) Sculpture by Jean-Ka

Jean-ka, self-taught plastic artist was born in France in 1968. He spent his entire professional career in the Parisian hotel industry before completely changing his activity after discovering what was to become his favorite material: resin.

After several years of work, trials and research, using different techniques, it is in his workshop in the Paris region that Jean-ka now manages to push the limits of resin to create totally unique and innovative works. Each creation involves questioning and very often requires finding a new way of doing things. For the sake of authenticity and truth, Jean-ka wishes to present “true” works of art, that is to say truly and entirely produced by his hands.

Open to the world and close to people, he therefore creates works of which each spectator can have a different reading and which each one can finally appropriate by seeing a different message.

If his inspiration comes to him initially from Pop and Street Art, his work is understood as a desire to suspend time by freezing in resin memories or emotions of youth. But we also often find in his creations a desire to associate opposites where the raw, even violent, side of the objects used contrasts completely with the softness of the message delivered, thus forming aerial works with a powerful message.

This is what we find in his current work of inclusion where Jean-ka freezes different objects to form the word LOVE in a transparent resin like crystal. Some will see it as humor, others as poetry or, why not, a certain darkness ... Love is simply too complex to always be expressed in the same way ...
