The sight of a bright, vivid rainbow arching its way across the Maui sky is enough to take your breath away. Its brilliant colors fill the horizon with a spectrum of light, a reminder that there is still beauty in even the darkest moments. The palm trees, gently swaying in the breeze below, provide a serene scene as if to affirm that life goes on no matter what. This breathtaking display of nature's power serves as a timely reminder for us to take pause and appreciate the sometimes fragile but ever-present beauty all around us.

I make every day a possibility of taking that next great photograph. I often, if ever, know when or where it will occur, but I try to see it when it happens. And when it does, I’m thankful for being given the opportunity to capture that image as a photograph.

But that is only the beginning. I look at all my work with an eye of wonder. In other words, I’m trying to see what is in the image that you cannot necessarily see with the naked eye. I believe that there is almost always an art piece in every photo I take. And that art piece will only reveal itself when I go to post-processing with that image and manipulate it with some settings and filters.

This entire process came to me over a long period of time. I was looking at my photography, and all I could see was a picture. I knew the image was missing something… Something critical that would not only change the picture into a work of art but also evoke a sense of emotion when the viewer looks at it.

Some people may think that photo manipulation is wrong, that it is no longer the true image that was taken. And to that, I agree. But I also inform them that to make an art piece, manipulation is only a tool that I use. It’s like that of a painter who changes his colors or brush strokes to achieve the look he wants. That’s exactly what I do.
