He began working with oil paint at age 15 and studied under the guidance of artists Jacques Burel and Sauveur Galiéro, whose influence deeply shaped his artistic development. Over the years, Arena has explored both figurative and abstract styles, capturing iconic scenes from Algeria such as the port of Algiers, the Casbah, and the expansive desert dunes.

A passionate jazz enthusiast for more than six decades, Arena often channels the spirit of jazz legends like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker into his expressionist works. His current artistic practice involves creating vibrant oil paintings on canvas, where he skillfully uses knives and palette techniques to bring his compositions to life.
