The old-school boxing gyms where blood and sweat stained the canvas and leather heavy bags hung over worn wooden floors.
Boxers circled the room as they shadow boxed invisible opponents. Legends like Jake LaMotta, Mike Belloise, Phil Terranova and Jimmy Carter threw leather in the ring and dreamed of future glory.
These gyms took up-and-comers into contenders, and turned contenders into champions.
Hudson Marshall (born 1974, Montreal, Canada) is an emerging contemporary digital artist currently based in Toronto, Canada. He is fascinated with creating works that uncover the lesser observed experiences of the working man.
Marshall's work infuses urban landscapes and interiors with rich colors and uses light and shadow to set an enigmatic tone. The scenes are pervaded by a sense of isolation, silence, and inner conflict. His chosen locations are often lesser observed settings. At boxing gyms, mahjong parlors, auction houses, and corporate boardrooms, the scenes are often inhabited by a single figure or a small group who seem lost in their own space. These people escape from the trials and tribulations of the modern world in places few others access.
You can find his work published regularly on social media and for sale online in a variety of formats.
