Eberhard Hippler, painter and photographer, was born in 1944 in Wormditt, formerly in East Prussia. After obtaining his humanist baccalaureate in Gelsenkirchen at the age of 19, he trained as a typographer, still working with lead type and set squares.
At the same time, he prepared for the entrance exam to an art school. He then continued his studies in graphic design for 10 semesters at the Folkwangschule für Gestaltung in Essen-Werden, currently the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen. He graduated with honors.
After his studies, he embarked on a 40-year independent career as a communications designer, first in Gelsenkirchen and then in Dorsten. In addition to his work as a designer, he dabbled in painting with watercolors, tempera, pastels and photography, experimenting with various artistic techniques.
After his retirement in 2009, he began to explore oil painting. In 2018 he moved from the Ruhr region to Nordhorn in Lower Saxony. It was in 2021 that he discovered pastels, under the influence of the English artist Jenny Keal. Since then, he has added this new artistic dimension to his creative repertoire, further exploring the possibilities offered by pastels to express his unique artistic vision.
