Tina Turner, artiestennaam van Anna Mae, was een zangeres en actrice. Ze stond bekend als de Queen of Rock 'n' Roll.
De zangeres begon haar muzikale carrière in 1957 in Kings of Rhythm, de band van Ike Turner, met wie ze in 1962 trouwde. Het echtpaar scoorde gigantische hits als River Deep - Mountain High en Proud Mary. Als duo leverden de Turners een gigantische bijdrage aan het populariseren van de rock & roll.
In de jaren 80 brak ze door met een uiterst succesvolle solocarrière. De zangeres is met tweehonderd miljoen verkochte platen de bestverkopende vrouwelijke rockartiest en verkocht de meeste concerttickets van alle soloartiesten ter wereld. Turner stond bekend om haar krachtige stemgeluid en haar energieke optredens.
De zangeres, wiens muzikale carrière al in 1957 begon, stond in de laatste jaren van haar leven niet meer op het podium. Het laatste optreden dat Turner ooit gaf, was op 5 mei 2009 in het Engelse Sheffield. Turner, op dat moment 69 jaar, nam afscheid met een tournee waarin ze haar 50-jarig jubileum als zangeres vierde.
De zangeres was al lange tijd ziek. Zij overleed op 83-jarige leeftijd in haar Zwitserse woonplaats Küsnacht.
