Gunter Franke, a contemporary German artist, was born on August 20, 1938, in Hamburg. His artistic journey began with 7 semesters of study at Werkkunstschule Cologne, where he acquired foundational knowledge with a focus on fashion and clothing, supplemented by seminars on typography and the design of advertising materials.
For 7 years, Franke honed his craft at renowned advertising agencies in Frankfurt am Main, including stints as an art director at McCann and Heumann Advertising. At McCann, he spearheaded advertising campaigns for esteemed brands such as Opel-General Motors, Fichtel+Sachs, Salamander Shoes, and Kunert Stockings.
In 1969, Franke embarked on an independent career as a freelance advertising graphic artist, designer, and illustrator. His extensive client portfolio encompasses companies spanning the tourism and tobacco industries, associations, game publishers, tool manufacturers, banking publishers, shipping companies, and various advertising agencies.
Since 2004, Franke has also served as a lecturer and drawing course leader at MbW (music-artistic workshop) in Friedrichsdorf im Taunus. His approach to his art is marked by a penchant for symmetry paired with conventionality, though he embraces diverse methods of initiating his creative process.
