Gregory Gamaley, a contemporary painter born on March 6, 1979, in Tver, USSR, displayed an early affinity for drawing. Beginning in the sixth grade, he attended the Kharkiv Art School, where he was introduced to the fundamentals of painting, drawing, and sculpture. Upon graduating in 1994, Gamaley developed a particular interest in still life, drawn to its vibrant coloring.
The same year, Gregory passed the entrance exams for the Kharkiv Art College. A significant influence in his artistic development was Mr. Chursin, a professor and painter, with whom Gregory often painted in the picturesque settings of Clobozhanschina. In 1999, he presented his diploma work, "Pokrovsky Cathedral in the Evening," and earned his diploma.
From 1999 to 2005, Gregory pursued his studies at the Architecture Faculty of the Kharkiv National Academy of Municipal Economy (KNAME). During this period, he produced numerous city landscapes and drawings. Following his graduation, he taught at KNAME from 2006 to 2016.
Gregory frequently paints en plein air, exploring various regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kherson, and Crimea. These experiences allow him to capture a diverse range of subjects, from seas and mountains to yachts and architectural marvels. His other passion is creating still lifes featuring flowers and fruits.
For Gregory Gamaley, nature serves as the primary source of inspiration, providing a laboratory of light, color, and constant change. His landscapes, particularly those featuring water, reflect his fascination with the interplay of light and color, which he skillfully translates onto canvas.
