Grant Preston
Grant's art career started late in life.After eleven years in advertising as a creative director he decided to give the commercial world a miss and started learning to draw at the age of 30. He studied figure drawing at Wits University in Johannesburg and had his first exibition of figure drawings in June of 1981. Thirty years later after seven one man shows and numerous joint exhibitions throughout the world Grant has established himself as one of South Africa's leading contemporary artists. His style has changed over the years from figurative work in oils to his own unique style of abstraction in acrylics which is ever changing as he evolves as an artist. He now works from his home studio in Hermanus South Africa and welcomes all art lovers to visit.

I believe art to be an inherent talent needing dedication and practice before coming to fruition.You don't choose your style...it's something that developes over time.Subject means very little...it's more to do with the ability to manipulate paint into the desired effect.To harmonise colour and surface texture into one work of art.Something that holds your visual interest and arrests an emotional response.
I truly love the practice of painting and fully realise the privelage of being able to express myself in such a maleable medium.I promise to never produce paintings just because they sell,but to change my style as progress dictates.
