People, portrait, culture, that moment's capture of movement, body language. This is my favorite subject I always return to. Some are in crowds, some are intimately close, other's are resting, playing music, dancing, etc. Sizes vary from A4 8 x 10 inch, to 30 x 41 inch large paintings. Enjoy!

Every now and again I decide to work on this amazing thick parchment paper. And it lends itself sooo well to abstract work using acrylic paint.
So here I start to upload a collection of these mostly painted on a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It’s a thick parchment like paper, strong, yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect.
Again most will be acrylic colour on thai handmade mulberry paper(kada sa) , deckled edges, 10 x 13.5 in., 25.5 x 34.5cm

Looks like I'm more and more drawn to portraying people with movement. Dance is a natural subject for this. It's about figure, movement, loose brushwork. Then I have also been revisiting my old nightclub improv. sketches of people moving and dancing. I'm turning these into small expressive paintings. I hope the wide range in this section draws you in as well!!

I’m a part time orchid collector, grower, breeder. To me these epiphyte plants are floating nature sculptures and a great inspiration. Often the flowers have this Zen quality of appearing very briefly to change the complete look of an otherwise sleepy foliage attached to a tree trunk. Orchid paintings is a natural extension of this. Occasionally I'll do other nature scenes and my cats which I will include here.

Small projects in A4 and A3 sizes are great to work out ideas, and just as a way of keeping in touch with colour and paper. I tend to have a few of these in progress at any given time, while also working on one larger project. That's how my brain works I guess.
People always make a good subject… the lines are fluid, the challenge is to put movement into the painting with colour and ‘splash’.

I'm selling my sketchbooks, one page at a time!!!
Pencil and graphite stick 6B on paper. Sketching is my daily exercise. It keeps that part of my brain sharp. I often work these sketches fast and furious. In this way I capture a unique mood. Often lines are rough and scratchy, stains from water or paint may be on the paper, sometimes some folds or tears may be there. Slowly I am reaching into my trunk full of sketches, organizing them, getting the photo, uploading, and reworking them into paintings and some digital works. Many of my inspirations come from sitting out in public places. More are creative interpretations from images I see. My signature for most of my sketches is my ‘G’ … and I try to remember to put the date…

Biography
I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as a freelance artist since the 1980's … time flies.
I’ve travelled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art, as are nudes, architecture,orchids and nature. My love of tropical vistas is also reflected in the bright colours used. I work mainly with acrylic colours on paper, also handmade parchment papers. You’ll see that over time I’ve gone from representational to bold expression. Then there's book illustration, portrait, comic strip, graphite sketch and caricature. I also works with camera and computer, to create textured images brush strokes just can't deliver.
Since 1980 I’ve exhibited my paintings in Vancouver, Canada, Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, places where I’ve resided. More recently though my works can be viewed on online galleries … which allows me less interruptions to my creative time.
