Giuseppe Valia is a contemporary Italian artist who began his artistic journey as a graffiti artist, initially painting large walls and progressing to the gritty and intense practice of train-bombing, where he painstakingly painted subway lines. Valia continued creating graffiti until the age of 25, when he experienced a transformative shift, describing it as “seeing everything blue.” His work has since become a mental synthesis of his lived experiences, emotions, and observations.

Valia employs a mixed-media approach, incorporating spray paint, cement, oils, acrylics, inks, and various surfaces like canvas and wood. This diverse material palette allows him to channel his expressive vision, often resulting in pieces marked by scratches, holes, tears, and patches. Valia’s approach is marked by a relentless drive to manipulate and even force the materials to respond to his intent, creating works that are as raw and tactile as they are visually compelling.
