I used a mixture of materials to create the texture, includung tissue paper and modeling paste. It is painted using acrylics in a variety of techniques. The earth is a mixture of wet on wet and splatter. The sky is daytime on the left and nighttime on the right. The night sky is highlighted with copper.
I love to see photo's of the earth from space, and although this is not a representation in any way I was thinking of the feelings these photo's invoke in me when I created this. I also thought of the colours I see in my head when I think of a country, greens for Europe, oranges yellows and reds for Asia and Africa, purples for Japan and these were the colours I was inspired to use. I did not use any visual aids when creating this piece.

I’m originally from the North of England, but I now live by the sea in Menton, in the South of France. The sunshine, and the abundance of colour really inspire me to paint, and although I don’t actually paint scenes from here, the fantastic colours of the Azur coast sea have inspired me to start painting seascapes.I share my home with my French husband, a huge ever changing variety of motorbikes (only one of which is mine) a stray cat called Sox, and the numerous friends who just drop in for a week or two.

For my painting I prefer acrylics as I’m much too impatient to use oils. Acrylic paints are a great all rounder, you can texture them, apply thick like oil paints or even thin them down to look like water colours.I also adore pastels, they have a delicacy, and a subtlty all of their own

I have no formal training in the arts. I had just won a place on at college to take my art degree when I decided I couldn't wait that long to be with my man, so I moved out to France instead, where I have been luck enough to have some success exhibiting in the Town Hall at Castellar and at the Cafe Des Art in Menton
.
I don't just paint, I also create jewellery and other decorative objects, which keeps me very busy in the summer months, and when ever possible I love to go riding my bike in the mountains. If I'm not tied up with all that I'm usually singing with my band Burning Babylon.

I don’t actually remember a time when I didn’t make or paint things. In fact my first sale was at the age of seven, when I found some old bottles, decorated them and filled them with homemade rose and lavender eau de cologne. I set up a pavement stall and sold the lot. I also gave one to my mum, who used the water even though she’s allergic to lavender, she had a terrible rash for about a week. After that I progressed to making fimo beads (which was much safer for everyone!)
