As an artist I have had a long running love affair with traditional painting. I have dedicated myself to the study of the human figure, Renaissance Painting, composition and traditional painting techniques. I use the human form and a host of other objects as vehicles for relevance in my paintings. I combine a classical realism with a peculiarly skewed contemporary sensibility. It is part of my love affair with traditional painting to construct a personal mythology, a vision of art, the world, and my place in it. I work in oils and watercolors and ink on paper, always exploring new approaches with painting, drawing and composition; to enhance my skills, to provoke my imagery and to push the envelope of my visual and intellectual expectations.

I am represented by Nexus Gallery in Manhattan, New York. You may view a selection of my paintings on the Art Galore web site, and on the Nexus Gallery web site.

Cate McQuaid, Art Critic for the Boston Globe said in her review of a recent show; "Stearly's whole focus is on the exquisite line and tone of the human figure. His work has a comical, gothic bent, but the subjects are all grounded in the artists consistent attention to the bold outline of bone and muscle beneath the taunt skin of these people."

Alexandra Shaw Art Critic for Manhattan Arts International said in a recent profile, Gary Stearly is an outstanding realist artist. Stearly's compelling, detailed human figures fuse superb classical techniques with a contemporary vision. He combines elements of timeless metaphor, strenghth and sensuality in highly provocative paintings
