She was born in 1524 and died in 1564 protecting the kingdom from the Mughals for the third time, bringing the number of battles against the overthrow of her reign to 51.
From a young age she trained in hunting, horseback riding and in the use of weapons.
At eighteen she decided who she would marry, namely the king Gond currently in office, perhaps to unite the two dynasties against the powerful Mughals.
He died in 1550 and Durgavati remained as the sole ruler of the vast kingdom.
She was known as a great warrior, who knew how to face tribal alliances within her kingdom and as a determined ruler.
She expanded her kingdom, commanding an army of 20,000 cavalry, a thousand elephants and many soldiers.
She moved the capital to a more strategic place and she had many reservoirs and cisterns built, some of which are still visible.
When the Sultan of Malwa, from the west, tried to attack her, she replied so that she no longer had to worry about future other attempts. She faced further attacks from other enemies that came through the Bengal, and her victory impressed the Mughals who had failed to do the same.
That was at least until 1562 when the Mughals took the kingdom of Malva and thus arrived at the border of the kingdom of Durgavati.
The queen was asked to surrender which she denied and so she faced the first battle at Narrai, where taking advantage of her territory, although with a numerically smaller army she managed to drive the enemies out of the valley.
Durgavati wanted to continue to take advantage of the situation carrying out night raids but her lieutenants persuaded her to wait for daylight.
Eventually , during her last battle, she still managed to make the opposing army retreat three times, before being hit, along with her son, by a series of arrows. Realizing that she was close to her death, in order not to be killed by the enemy, she drew her dagger and committed suicide.

In ogni caso, l'obbiettivo dichiarato, specie nella serie "Women Warriors in history" è quello di far conoscere almeno il nome dei soggetti raffigurati e quindi, se stai guardando, è già almeno in parte raggiunto.
La ragione è semplicemente che a me sarebbe piaciuto conoscerle quando andavo a scuola ed invece, se non le avessi appositamente cercate, non avrei mai saputo niente di loro.
A proposito di istruzione, in campo artistico non ne ho ricevuta nessuna ufficiale e questo determina già la scelta del mezzo e delle tecniche utilizzate, cioè nel mio caso pittura digitale invece di pittura vera e propria, nonché ovviamente le mie capacità tecniche nell'avvicinarmi, almeno un po', al risultato desiderato.
Comunque ognuna delle immagini è il risultato della sovrapposizione di pittura digitale, fotoritocco e di molti tentativi scartati.
Non avendo nessuna preparazione ovviamente non posso pretendere nulla dal campo ma, essendo l'arte sempre stata una passione, ho deciso di provare a metterla comunque a frutto per quel che è possibile e se ci riuscissi anche solo un po' potrei comunque ritenermi soddisfatta.
