Anat was an ancient Mesopotamian goddess of war and hunting.
Her figure seems to have an Amorite origin dating back to the Bronze Age under the name of Hanat.
She was particularly well known in Ugarit, a city in the north of present-day Syria, and in the city of Mari, where she was one of the main deities.
She appears frequently in myths, such as the cycle of Baal, another of the main deities ,as well as in stories in which she relates to the goddess Ashtart or the sun goddess Shapash.
As with any female deity, in subsequent studies, she suffered the label of "goddess of fertility" given indiscriminately to any goddess as well as to every female being that was identified mainly with her reproductive organs. However, based on everything that has been known about her figure, the appointment could not hold up for long even if it is still associated with her name in outdated studies.
In her depictions and descriptions she is presented as young, armed with swords and bow as well as winged, which is the main criterion used to distinguish her within a work, a characteristic perhaps taken from the iconography of Ishtar, another well-known goddess who was previously depicted with wings and under whose influence other figures were provided with them.
Among her opponents mentioned there are the god of the sea Yam, various sea monsters and the god of death Mot who is killed by her and whose corpse she tries in every way to rage on for revenge after the (presumed) killing of her ally Baal.
Later she also became an Egyptian deity, depicted with spear, shield and crown.

HI

To begin with, thank you for your visit to my profile and I hope you like my "works" (if I can call them that).

In any case, the declared goal, especially in the "Women Warriors in history" series, is to make at least the name of the subjects depicted known and therefore, if you are watching, it has already been at least partially achieved.

The reason is simply that I would have liked to know them when I went to school and instead, if I hadn't specifically looked for them, I would never have known anything about them.

Speaking of education, in the artistic field I have not received any official one and this already determines the choice of medium and techniques used, i.e. in my case digital painting instead of physical painting, as well as obviously my technical skills in approaching , at least a little, to the desired result.

However, each of the images is the result of the overlap of digital painting and  photo editing and of many discarded attempts.

Having no preparation, obviously I can't expect anything from this but, since art has always been a passion, I decided to try to put it to good use as far as possible and if I succeeded even just a little I could still be satisfied .

P.s. my English too isn't perfect so I apologize in advance for any possible (/probable) grammatical errors.
