An awesome task to respond to visually and creatively, perhaps even impossible. But this is my response to the challenge employing a high key and contrasting palette complementing a dynamic composition enhanced by rich pointilliste markmaking and pattern.
Felix Akulw, a contemporary British painter, possesses a unique artistic perspective that is deeply attuned to the ever-changing world around him. Whether consciously or unconsciously, Felix has the remarkable ability to absorb and respond to the dynamic tapestry of events and issues, both local and global, that shape our lives.
In recent times, a cascade of unexpected political and environmental challenges, from the rise of Trumpism and the turbulence of Brexit to the urgent calls of the Black Lives Matter movement, the looming specter of climate change, and the far-reaching impact of a global pandemic, have cast a shadow of uneasiness and unrest upon society. Felix describes this collective sensation as the "winds of change" sweeping through all strata of human existence. It is within this backdrop of transformation that his work has taken shape over the past two years, with a deliberate intent to abstractly capture and reflect this paradigm shift.
However, amidst the tumultuous currents of change, Felix remains steadfast in his commitment to preserving the inherent joy and beauty of our existential circumstances. His artistic journey is imbued with an enduring optimism that seeks to uplift and inspire.
Felix's artistic evolution began in the realm of figurative art, a foundation he believes to be indispensable for aspiring artists. His unwavering belief in the importance of mastering basic drawing skills and techniques remains a guiding principle. Even today, he dedicates time to the practice of drawing from life and nature, grounding himself in the fundamentals of his craft.
Furthermore, Felix's artistic curiosity extends to the possibilities offered by emerging technologies. He devotes significant time to exploring and experimenting with digital means of artistic expression, harnessing the potential of the digital realm to expand his creative horizons.
Above all, what fuels Felix's artistic passion is his profound love for color—a love nurtured by the works of luminaries like Kandinsky, Matisse, and the vibrant realms of Abstract colorfield painting and Op Art. These influences infuse his creations with a dynamic interplay of hues and forms, inviting viewers to embark on a visual journey where color is the primary protagonist.
