Born in 1973, Fabien Boitard lives and works in Aniane in Hérault.

“Trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Bourges, Fabien Boitard paints against all odds with a passion that immediately impresses the viewers that we are. His vituperative painting forcefully expresses a certain form of protest.

Fabien Boitard adopts a heterogeneous style. He explains: “We don’t have the same relationship with a house, a tree or a person, so why translate that into the same way of painting.” So he refuses to stick to a single style. He prefers to play with the material and juxtapose, in the same canvas, mixed techniques, depending on whether he wants to convey, for example, a feeling of happiness, astonishment or anger...

He thus confronts different temporalities and contradictory moods. Its enigmatic formal connections, sometimes grating, often intriguing, require a polyphonic reading of the image. He generally relies on a photograph that he may or may not have taken himself. But he can also paint directly on the motif or create an original composition. In any case, he happily brings together a blur, splatters, spray-painted graffiti, a drawing and even a glaze on the same surface.

“All the ways of putting paint on canvas interest me. Through the material, the image takes on its full meaning. More than the subject, it’s the atmosphere that I seek to define.” The framing, the themes covered, the visual associations, the colors used, everything is out of the ordinary. Nature and its future obsess Fabien Boitard, who lives in the Montpellier countryside. What place will man give to it tomorrow? How will she occupy her imagination? How can we continue to dream in a society where everything becomes a commodity? He specifies “not wanting to be in the demonstration, but looking for a certain tension”…
