Elvira Baranova is a contemporary artist based in New Zealand. She studied painting, book illustration, and animation at the Republican College of Art, the Polytechnic University, and the Artists Animator's Course in Kiev, Ukraine. For many years, she lived in several European countries, working in traditional 2D animation and illustration before returning to her passion for painting.
In 1998, Baranova moved to New Zealand, where she worked as an animator and illustrator for various animation studios in Wellington. During this time, she also experimented with different mediums and techniques, combining watercolor, acrylic, and oil in her painting practice.
Her first solo exhibition took place at the McGregor Wright Gallery in Wellington in 2001. Since then, she has become a regular exhibitor at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, as well as in numerous galleries and organizations throughout the country. Her paintings are held in private collections both in New Zealand and around the world, and she has participated in several international fantasy art exhibitions in Europe.
In 2004, Baranova completed a Diploma of Multimedia at Natcoll Design Technology in Wellington and was subsequently employed as a 2D and 3D matte/digital painter, storyboard artist, character designer, and concept artist for Huhu Studios. She also worked as a graphic design artist in the online gaming industry while continuing to pursue her own artistic endeavors. Since 2009, Baranova has dedicated herself to her work as a full-time professional artist.
