''Zoizo is a young hen who was rescued as a fledgling in Strasbourg (France), at the train station. I met her on February 2nd 2021.

I was going through depression at the time, and when I saw her on the damp and cold quay stairs, it felt like time and space ceased to exist. She looked so sad and helpless that the urge to warm and protect her in my scarf grew upon me. I then rushed her to the nearest vet, who told me that they couldn’t bring her to any shelter because of COVID, so I had to do it myself. Of course I was new to that city, didn’t have a drivers licence, and didn’t know anybody who could take me there in the coming days.
I still managed to get in touch with our local LPO (Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux), but they wouldn’t come and get her directly so they sent me information about rescuing fledglings and stayed in contact with me for the following weeks. After a while, they told me she probably wasn’t gonna make it back into the wild because she was, despite all my efforts to prevent that, imprinted. The woman on the phone asked me if I wanted to keep her or not, and since I still couldn’t find a car or bus to take me to the shelter, I decided to keep her.
Now she is the love of my life, my everything. She helped me a lot with my mental health struggles and, thanks to her, I discovered that Life could be enjoyable and beautiful. I’ve also learned a lot about rock doves and their history. Her presence in my daily life has made me more resilient as well as even more passionate about animals. I’m so grateful to share my life with this awesome creature. She’s not a pet, she’s a soulmate.''
