We picked him up and took home with us.
Next morning we started searching for a vet, but kept getting refused.
Almost certain they would not care about treating his broken wing and eventually put him to sleep, we finally found ourselves in front of the wildlife rehab of the municipality. Once we were to fill the forms out, we knew it’d be too late to take him back. Looking for a solution, we were chatting with one of the staff, a nice girl, who suggested a vet hospital that might take pigeons in.
We immediately went there and everything started to change for the better. They accepted a pigeon every other vet in the city refused to help and care.
That’s how we met our lovely vet “Uncle Saverio”.
He was to stay with bandages for weeks, so to keep him company we brought him a stuffed pigeon “Hamziş” whom Mavi later chose as his wife.
After some months, we started to think perhaps it would be better if he lived with others of his kind. So we took him to a friend’s aviary for disabled pigeons.
The moment we left him there, we felt something was off. Coming back home without him broke our hearts. We had access to aviary/security cam. Mavi was standing in a corner mostly looking outside, almost as if he was waiting for lsomeone. He wasn’t eating or socializing.
Two days passed with tears in our eyes until we decided to go back to pick him up. Living together everyday for five months, he had become one of our family or we had become part of his flock. We just weren’t awake enough to understand before leaving him behind and causing him all the stress.
Since then, we’ve always been together.
We are sleeping in the same room, waking up to his morning routines. He loves traveling by car and enjoys looking around in the supermarket cart while we’re grocery shopping. Always with Hamziş of course. Mavi is extremely jealous of her and never leaves her out of sight.
His favorite treat is peanuts. He starts flapping his wings and uncontrollably jumps up an down as soon as he hears the peanut jar is opened.
He is the meaning of our little lives and our “pigeon teacher” 🩵«
Mavi lives with his human parents Birge and Memo. They are originally from Istanbul, living in Italy, currently in the northern part, a city called Udine.
Before, they lived in Florence for 5 years and including Mavi all the pigeons they rescued are from there.

Elodie M. Richard was born in France but with a complex heritage including Polish and Russian. Due to her father’s career in the Army her family had to regularly move and adapt to new locations in France and abroad. Her life path as a child and adult is made of travels and regular changes of geographical locations, constantly balancing between feeling of loss, challenges and new life starts.
Unlike a superficial society that gets lost in ultra consumption, Elodie creates a refined, symbolic and meditative world around the broad notion of identity. She takes her inspirations from personal experiences but also current events and her connection to nature.
The artist currently lives in Central Florida with her husband (artist himself) and their small flock of 5 rescued pigeons.
This page shows an inventory of her work as a painter and illustrator since 2016 up to this current year.
Some of her artworks appear as sold, if interested in an art piece, please private message Elodie.
