ABOUT LAURA ELLIOTT, THE ARTIST:

I, Laura Elliott, am a young contemporary, practising artist and I have been passionate about art my whole life. I am a drawer, painter and photographer, and often use multimedia within my art. My work explores the concepts of emotion, memory, location, self and identity. Using abstract expressionist and impressionistic painting techniques, I create a wide range of work from landscape to figurative. I have gained UK qualifications in Art and Design and am presently studying an Art and Media BA (Hons). Having been creating art for 13 years and a practicing for the last 6 years, I primarily paint landscapes and skyscapes; however, I am passionate about exploring nature and the world around me which inspires my work. I am also passionate about the body and drawing and painting the human form. My past portfolio includes work I have created through life, including artwork for sale and artwork created during my Art degree.

MY ART AND STYLE:

I consider my work to be bold, experimental and progressive.

I have been exploring two aspects to my work, my own world and the world which surrounds me. My university work explores deep concepts, including self, identity and the world around me, with past and present uniting. Much of my work has utilised my multimedia experience and I also enjoy practicing art within the media of photography, film, drawing and the written form. I am passionate about the study of contemporary art within. I have practised, within my degree, two specialty areas are Fine Art and Photography to degree level. I am a passionate writer and have developed a deep affinity for theoretical debates and concepts within the art world, often integrating ideas into my practices.

EXHIBITIONS AND EXPOS:

I have been involved with a few exhibitions and my last exhibition was covered and publicised in a local newspaper in 2003. Since then I have been involved with working and studying to gain my Art and Media BA (Hons) and my degree show will be held in 2007. I am a member of a local artist group, called Ambience, a group of like minded artists who support and exhibit as a group. In the future I aim to gain a PGCE to teach in Secondary Schools and to continue to exhibit with ambience and other artists’ circles I join.
