Ekaterina Lagutina, the watercolor artist, was born in the city of Bryansk, Russia, in 1987. Her artistic journey began at the School of Fine Arts, where she honed her skills in iconography over several years. In 2011, she ventured to Greece, where she was accepted into the University of Western Attica's Department of Graphic Arts. Here, she continued her studies in fine arts, delving deeper into her passion for watercolor painting.
Lagutina's talent soon gained recognition, and she participated in numerous international watercolor exhibitions. In 2018, she made Cyprus her home, where she currently lives and creates.
Specializing in landscapes, Lagutina employs the "wet on wet" watercolor technique to bring her artistic vision to life. Her process is deeply intuitive, drawing inspiration from nature and relying on her photographic memory to capture the essence of a scene without references. Plein air practice allows her to develop her perception of tones and hues, while each painting session is an opportunity for her to convey the interplay of light and shadow on the luminous paper.
Lagutina's dedication to her craft is evident in her approach; she avoids the use of white paint or masking fluid and refrains from using black color. She prefers to complete each work in a single session, capturing the immediacy and spontaneity of her impressions.
For Lagutina, the true joy of being an artist lies in the viewer's ability to connect with her work on a visceral level. When a viewer describes experiencing the same impression that inspired her, Lagutina feels a profound sense of fulfillment in knowing that her art has successfully conveyed the beauty and emotion of the natural world.
