Pandemonium Collection n° 1 (2021) Painting by Edilson Da Silva Plá

A self-taught, intuitive artist, with a lot of emotional strength, who began his artistic career very early in his hometown; Jaguarão, in the border pampas, between Brazil and Uruguay. There, he had his first exhibition at the age of 15, and they were already abstract paintings, very expressive and with intense colors. The star work of this first exhibition was called: Vietnam War.

Emigrated to Rio de Janeiro, at the age of 18, he attended various art courses at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and in the Laranjeiras Art Center. And, he acted on several artistic fronts; theatrical actor, theater set designer, film director. One of his films; an experimental film that expressed the feelings of collective fear during the period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, won two national festivals, as best film; "Um Breve Mergulho" and later, censored.

During this time, he always periodically turned to painting, until deciding, in the years 2020/21, to fully commit to this form of artistic expression.

During the years 2020/21 I have worked with acrylic on canvas and paper, creating about 80 works, of various sizes.

In 2022, I dedicated myself to valuing this first phase and investigate the new direction that my work will take in the year 2023.

I generally work with acrylic on canvas or paper, in different sizes. He likes the lightness of acrylic paint, its quick drying and its multiple possibilities. He almost always works with brushes and a spatula, and occasionally with alternative techniques.

The influences are many. The universe of the abstract and its derivations are immense, so it could not be put into a specific style. It has two ways of working to capture feelings: a more spontaneous, turbulent and impulsive one, mixing all types of materials and techniques; and another more reflective one, with a more precise technique, using only the brush, such as, for example, the Pandemonio series. It could not fail to be mentioned that all his work is impregnated with musicality, intrinsic in all his artistic experiences.

The works presented cover three phases of his career: the first where a lot of information can be appreciated in a small space . In the second, a clearer separation between context and motive is already noticeable. And the third phase is the beginning of a cleaner expressive investigation, with clearer figures and a more defined chromatic range.
