Dr David Gerber, MD, MHSc, FRCS(C), is a prominent gynecologist and renowned expert in labiaplasty (labia reduction surgery). He has been practicing gynecology since 1997, after working as a family doctor for four years in rural Manitoba and Alberta. He received his medical degree from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and completed his internship in Cape Town, followed by a year of service in an underprivileged area of the Ciskei region, where he focused on Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He pursued his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and did a subspecialty in Incontinence Surgery in Toronto. He earned a Master of Health Sciences in Bioethics from the University of Toronto in 2004.
Dr. Gerber's clinical practice focuses on academic gynecology at Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Science Centre in Toronto, with particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, colposcopy, and emergency gynecology. He is skilled in a range of procedures, including minimally invasive clinic-based surgery, fibroids, heavy vaginal bleeding, vulva disease, and precancerous lesions of the vulva, vagina, and cervix (abnormal pap tests). He has also developed a micro-surgical technique for successful labia reduction surgery and is considered an authority on the topic. He is a member of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and the American College Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Aside from his clinical work, Dr. Gerber also teaches residents and students and regularly delivers lectures to community physicians. He has designed surgical systems that enable outpatient procedures to be performed safely and efficiently. His medical philosophy is rooted in the Feminine Ethics of Care Framework.
