“My primary concern as an artist is to explore the psychological and spiritual stories that unfold in all of us, what Joseph Campbell calls “the heroic journeys”, those remarkable inner journeys made by so many people in their everyday lives. My work strives to reveal something of this invisible world." - Douglas Ross

Douglas Ross is a professional photographer who makes work that is both poetic and dramatic in its ideas and "realist" in the way it is made. All of his work, even his photography, is based on drawing from life regularly and often.
He looks at how the stories of our lives play out on a psychological and spiritual level. In a lot of his work, he has worked directly with the people he is painting or photographing to find out what has shaped their lives. The conversation starts with words and then moves into pictures as we talk about settings, symbols, dreams, visions, and colors. He has been lucky enough to hear the stories of what Joseph Campbell calls "the hero's journey." This is a remarkable inner journey that many people take even though their lives seem normal. His work tries to show something about this world that we can't see. In the last few years, he's worked with a number of people on long-term projects where everyone contributes equally.
Doug Ross was born in 1954 in New York City. His career as an artist includes painting, sculpting, and photography. His work is present in many private worldwide collections.
