Donald Young (dondavid)
"I feel the viewer should have an experience, or why bother?"
Born in the Midwest, he grew up in his mother's music school. After her death, he relocated to Dallas, Texas as a young teenage runaway, where he attended a school for fine arts. Don David's passion is to create a cutting edge art that is provocative yet is geared to evoke emotion. Galleries from Miami, Florida to Palm Springs, California have featured his bold German expressionistic style dramatically displayed on canvas and paper. Young was previously an art instructor at Desert Fine Arts Academy and still gives workshops in Therapeutic Art. Don David's home is now Palm Springs, California.
"I like to be bold in subject matter and color, provocative and conceptual, while my intention is to provoke an emotion and a feeling to the viewer."
STATEMENT of the ARTIST:
"My work is based on emotions. That movement in motion we call life. The joy and the tragedy, the dark and the light and the quest for balance between two worlds are dramatically displayed on my surfaces."
"My direct influences would have to be Wilem De Kooning and Julian Schnabel, although Warhol and Herring both fascinate me as well. One of my latest influences has been the late photographer, Diane Arbus. I give a painterly view to Diane's photographic vision of the 1960's. My full spectrum interpretations of her black and white photographs present an explosive rebirth of color." "I feel the viewer should have an "experience", or why bother?"

I am predominantly a painter however I do enjoy using oil bars on paper which technically makes them "drawings". All of my paintings are pallet knife paintings with brushes used only for the negative space and the glazes if I decide to glaze on top of the high texture of paint. My paintings take two years to dry and are varnished with my own handmade Damar Varnish made from damar crystals and turpentine. This usually takes a year for the varnish to reach it's maturity.

I have to recognize that even if it is not fun, it is particularly striking. Faces and attitudes are kind of fascinating. Well done!
