A child is a tragedy waiting to happen, Man is the tragedy in progress."
(Dominic Rouse - The Artist's Journal, March 2003)
"Whether considering P H Emerson and his albumen prints or Edward Weston to Jerry Uelsmann with their work with gelatin silver, or for that matter Dominic Rouse with his digitally montaged images, it's the mind of the photographer and his exploration of the fundamental questions of life and death, love and loss, meaning and chaos that make photographic art captivating."

Dominic Rouse is a British photographer. In 1976, he began his career as a photojournalist. In 1986, he opened his first commercial studio; ten years later, he purchased a computer and began focusing on more personal art projects. Rouse does not photograph the world; he photographs the inner workings of his mind.
His singular vision and mastery of techniques set him apart from many other photographers who work with computers. While his work appears to be rooted in the past, it is actually the result of a seamless fusion of cutting-edge digital technology and the timeless qualities of large format black and white photography.
Dominic Rouse was born in England on 15 August 1959. His work has been exhibited internationally, in both England and the United States, in prestigious galleries and fairs. When 'Haunted by a Painter's Ghost' was exhibited in London, the editor of America's Black & White Magazine lauded him as a "master of digital manipulation," and his black and white silver prints were lauded as "masterpieces" by the editor of the British Journal of Photography.
