This etching is a mixture of a few ideas I've had about Mountain border areas. It doesn't necessarily have to be a crossing point but the oversized guns on the small cabin are there to send a message to would be visitors. This etching is a mixture of a few ideas I've had about Mountain border areas. It doesn't necessarily have to be a crossing point but the oversized guns on the small cabin are there to send a message to would be visitors. I've always loved forests and crossing over from Turkey to Bulgaria for many years to go to Burgas you go through the hills. You can have a feeling of serenity and peace when you look at the surrounding landscape but at the same time the process of border control can be a little tense and uneasy.

Dermot Ryan graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art Print from Limerick School of Art and Design and an MA in Fine Art Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts, London and was awarded the R.K Burt prize at his final show. In 1994 he graduated with a higher diploma in teaching Art & Design from Limerick School of Art & Design and went on to teach Art part-time at various schools including Limerick Art college printmaking department from 1994 to 1995 as a printmaker in residence. He lived in Dubai and Turkey from 1997 until 2010 when he returned to live in Dublin.

He is a member and ex-director of the board of Graphic Studio Dublin. He mostly works in intaglio and relief but sometimes in lithography and monotype. He has taken part in many shows in Ireland and abroad. His work is mainly concerned with the Landscape and his response to what he has seen on his journeys around Ireland, Turkey and Bulgaria.
