Nato a Termoli nel 1972, si trasferisce presto in Sardegna a La Maddalena, dove manifesta un precoce interesse per il disegno e per le discipline musicali.
Nonostante alcune scelte lo portino a percorrere vie diverse dall'arte, maturità classica e laurea in giurisprudenza all'Università Cattolica di Milano, trova infine nella pittura ( praticata da autodidatta fin dal 2000) un mezzo idoneo alle sue necessità espressive, chiaramente rappresentate in uno stile influenzato dai fauves francesi nonché da De Pisis e Michele Cascella (apprezzato e conosciuto da lui durante il soggiorno milanese).
E’ nei temi e nella poetica crepuscolare di quest'ultimo che Cossu si ritrova, rifiutando con tenacia ogni complicazione concettuale, astratta od informale e allacciandosi ad un genere di rappresentazione artistica semplice e d'effetto , dai caratteri decorativi.
Ultimamente sta rivedendo il suo modo di fare arte con un ritorno alle origini ..ossia a tematiche ed atmosfere riguardanti la Sardegna.
