What can I say. I am just totally addicted to Khan, he just has so much character that it is impossible to resist. His every expression fascinates and challenges the artist in me. I have been finding it rather difficult to draw these days with all that is going on around me but just one visit to my faithful friend this weekend had me back to the carpet hunched over the card with pastels in hand. Once again as I sat with him I found I forgot all the trials and tribulations of late and was just lost in the peace and tranquility that seems to prevail in his world. In the original photograph he is spellbound by an unexpected friend (a lizard) who decided to share the exact tree that Khan was using as a leaning post. Needless to say a game of swat and swerve ensued. This picture and watching Khan took me back to the simpler time of childhood when nothing was complicated and fun and laughter were a given. The old saying – innocence of youth definitely came to mind and I realised how much I take for granted all those things that used to fill my heart and mind with wonder and joy. How I wish I could still poses that freedom of spirit and look upon the world through those eyes once again.

Born in Bulawayo Zimbabwe in 1973. I attended the Bulawayo Polytech intending to study Textile design. After attaining my first diploma I realised that this was not the outlet my creativity craved and needed. Having always had a natural love for wildlife and aggravated by how many people took this beautiful gift we have for granted I did my first animal just over 3 years ago. Being mostly a hunting country I despirately wanted and needed to show what I call the "human side" of our beautiful animals. I did not want to do just another pretty picture to hang on someones wall but rather a picture that tell the story of that animal, a place where the viewer can share its life from a distance and gain a touch of understanding. Being lucky enough to personally know a lot of the animals I draw has enriched my life and fulfilled me in ways I never thought possible. Each animal has such individuality and character that it is impossible not to fall deeper in love with them as I go.
