I strongly believe that art can inspire spontaneity to appreciate the pristine beauty of common objects around us that are often taken for granted.
Painting Technique
Use of succinct but stimulating arrangements of dots and lines in conjunction with the use of line alternation and color variations to reflect the intrinsic attributes of depicted structures.
Aesthetic Judgement
My judgement of beauty has been greatly influenced by the "Lao Zhuang Philosophy", beauty exists in the fusion of figurative and abstract art connecting abstract qualities of life with reality to obtain equilibrium between the two purportedly mutually exclusive techniques.

Biography
Born in Shanghai in 1969, Zhang Chunlei’s artistic career started at a young age when he was apprenticed to renowned Chinese painter, Master Jiang Fengbai. In 1992, he graduated from the Suzhou University School of Arts with a Professional Certificate in decoration design. He continued his artistic training in Japan in 1995. In 2003, Zhang obtained his MBA from the University of South Australia. He is currently living and working in Singapore and his art practice spans between Singapore and Shanghai, China.
Influenced by the Lao Zhuang Philosophy, which advocates artistic beauty and equilibrium, Zhang’s painting technique involves creating a series of tightly woven dots, lines and planes, weaving a purposeful formation with alternating colours. This concept of fusion of figurative and abstract elements results in a stunning work of art.
Zhang’s artworks have been acquired by private and corporate collectors such as UOB Singapore, Marriot Hotel (Beijing), Yucun Art Museum and Suzhou Daily (China), the Shangri-La Hotel, Legend Hotel, Times Square Hotel and Grand Margherita Hotel (Malaysia) and Far East Plaza and Meritus Mandarin Hotel in Singapore.

Sehr geehrter Herr Zhang,
beim Betrachten Ihres Werkes (Old Town) erlebe ich die lebendig gewordene Momentaufnahme einer Stadt aus einer anderen Epoche. Es fühlt sich an, als hätte sich die Erinnerung eigenständig gemacht und wäre aus einem Bild der Vergangenheit ausgebrochen, um erneut einen pulsierenden Augenblick zu durchleben. Diese Szenerie, sowohl vergangen als auch voller Bewegung, verschmilzt in meiner Vorstellung nostalgische Vergangenheit mit einer eigenartigen, unwirklichen Präsenz. Ihr Werk vermittelt für mich eine Stimmung, die zeitlose Melancholie und lebendige Energie auf einzigartige Weise vereint.
Ich habe das Betrachten dieses Kunstwerks sehr genossen und finde es sehr inspirierend.

Dear Mr. Zhang,
When I look at your work (Old Town), I experience a snapshot of a city from another era that has come to life. It feels as if the memory has taken on a life of its own and broken out of an image of the past to experience a pulsating moment again. This scene, both past and full of movement, merges in my imagination a nostalgic past with a strange, unreal presence. For me, your work conveys a mood that combines timeless melancholy and lively energy in a unique way.
I really enjoyed looking at this work of art and find it very inspiring.
