The shimmering of the sea in the sun, the blue shades of the currents offshore, it is all of Brittany, its colors and its maritime heritage that is shown in the paintings of Christian Biard. The viewer's eye rediscovers the sensations of the walker or the sailor facing the sea: dazzling, infinite, calm or storm...
The painter's work reflects his passion and knowledge of the sea, which shines through in works that are sometimes sensitive, sometimes scientific.

Part of his work translates onto canvas "impressions" experienced during his excursions on the coast and at sea, in the classic form of landscape or with more surprising framing where the horizon disappears and the subject becomes almost abstract.

The painter also distinguished himself in academic "marines", portraits of old sailing ships, current or disappeared, reconstructions of scenes typical of a region and an era, which require a sense of technical detail and an in-depth study of archival documents, in order to truthfully restore the characteristic elements of the subject. Through his representations of lighthouses, the painter finally places himself in the tradition of painters of the sea.

The techniques used are varied: oil painting, graphite, charcoal... If the painter seeks the finesse of the line and the detail, for his classic portraits of boats or lighthouses, his most personal works open the way to experimentation; the impastos of matter suggest the unleashed elements, the line blurs to reflect the reflections on the water...
