Chica Boyriven was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and is a Franco-Brazilian artist who moved to France in the 1980s to pursue her artistic education. She studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris under the renowned artist Pierre Alechinsky, a leading figure in the CoBrA movement, where she earned her diploma.
Chica’s work is deeply influenced by the rich cultural heritage of her native Brazil, as well as the foundational principles of the CoBrA movement. Her artistic inspiration is diverse, drawing from both ethnic and popular sources. She explores themes ranging from ex-voto wish-granters and medicinal plants to rock engravings and urban graffiti. Her art reflects a profound exploration of emotions, combining the melancholy of lead with the softness of pen, while also contemplating cosmic trajectories and the lines of destiny.
Through her work, Chica Boyriven crafts a dreamlike and magical world that is often humorous, touching, and deeply committed to the sacred aspects of life. Her art engages with the collective imagination, inviting viewers to explore the stories and emotions that lie within her vibrant creations.
