Catherine DEGRENNE, whose family has been Norman for generations, lives in Frênes, near Tinchebray in Normandy.
For Catherine, the artistic adventure began at the age of 40 when lessons in drawing are offered to him. His paintings, made in acrylic or oil, represent characters in situation. She favors acrylic to paint poorly detailed characters with a knife; the rapid drying time despite the thickness of the material allows him to continue creating his painting without waiting too long. When she wants to make more detailed characters or portraits, she paints in oil; this one, taking longer to dry gives her time to work on the nuances of the skin, of the faces: this gives a softer, silkier, more velvety appearance and the expression she wishes to give is perfectly rendered.
Catherine creates her paintings on large, even very large canvases, because she thinks it is easier for her to refine the facial expression of her characters on a larger space. She deeply feels the need to paint characters who, through their attitudes and expressions, allow her to convey a feeling, to transmit sometimes personal emotions.
