Carolin Okon is a contemporary German artist known for her painting and steel sculptures in public spaces. Born and raised in the GDR, Okon began painting in 1988 out of necessity during a time of scarcity. With limited access to art materials, she painted portraits of her idols, such as Elvis and James Dean, on unconventional surfaces like wood, cardboard, fabric, and even a GDR flag.
After completing media training in "Film & TV, Production and Management" at the Adolf Grimme Academy in 2003, she chose to fully dedicate herself to painting. Studying art formally was never an option for Okon, who prefers to embrace creative freedom, challenging herself to evolve, experiment, and grow without constraints.
Okon’s works have been exhibited internationally, including in the USA, France, England, Austria, and most recently in China.
