Carlos "Cee" Cadid was born in Hagonoy, Bulacan 1954 and commenced his professional artistic carrer in 1976, as a member of the "Saturday Group", which was then headed by H.R. Ocampo
Artist Sonofrio Y. Mendoza has been Cee's closest mentor, providing him with much of his guidance and inspiration which has helped to shape his talents to the point where he is now recognized as one of the finest portrait and "realism" artist in the Philippines. Amongst his more notable work are portraits of Juan Ponce Enrile family, Ramon Cojuanco, Freddie Aguilar and Mr. & Mrs. Joe Guingona
What was written by Mercy S. Tolentino about Cee's style of painting many years ago applies equally well today. In her article, she stated:
"One of the young practitioners of consequence of magic or poetic realism in the country today is Cee Cadid. He formally picked up the rudiments of art at the University of East but underwent a more rigid training with the Plein-air painters known as the Dimasalang Group, notable from the landscapist Sofronio "Sym" Mendoza and Romulo Galicano.
Cadid is often fasinated not so much with the remains of the past as the portrayal of a few things that roll back the years only a little further. For instance, Cadid would paint an honest rendering of a simple kitchen with crude stoves, pots againts a lattice-work bamboo wall. The composition, the relevant details that are present, might reminds you of a snapshot at a glance, but Cadid's interpretation trancends photographic realism.
Realism is a transgression against the flat and the plain. It makes leap to profound vision and, for Cadid, it weaves a story as well."
