This is a still life painting of a peaceful tea time table setting. It is a very happy, blessed occasion to be fortunate enough to be able to have the luxury of the situation, and the time to set aside, for a warm cup of tea in the afternoon. From the beginning of polite society, it has been a tradition to indulge in this activity, often daily. It is the duty of a good hostess/host to offer their guests and visitors a drink, which is often a hot cup of tea. Afternoon is that time of day in between lunch and supper, where energies might start to wane, so tea time in the afternoon is especially beneficial, as it is a comforting caffeinated beverage. Tea time is also a pleasant break from the hustle and bustle of every day life. This inviting table setting, with a pretty table cloth, a bright window, a vase of flowers, in this case, carnations, is a tranquil, joyous oasis for a short time away from the cares of the world. In a world where some people starve to death from lack of sustenance in abject poverty, or, they may find their food salvaged from disgusting garbage dumps, this is a luxury that many people will never know. This painting represents all that is rich and comfortable about our lives and the many blessings that we take for granted everyday, like a tea time oasis.
