“As a child, I went to the Louvre with my grandfather. I was very excited to see “Mona Lisa” for real. But there were so many people that I had difficulty approaching. She was so small, so far away, so protected, so inaccessible. I was very disappointed! But this experience inspired me. With this series "Teasing life", I desecrate the icons of the history of art and invite the viewer to play with "On a surface of 70cm x 90cm, 11 wooden squares of 20cm x 20cm which can be moved from top to bottom and left to right as in a traditional game of teasing. Dutour combines a variety of techniques and mediums to provide many access points into his cosmos, drawing inspiration from the new realists, Magritte's humor, or Duchamp's conceptual work. He works in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, neon, and installation.
Benoît Dutour was born in 1967, in France. His artworks were displayed in galleries in France, Spain, China, the Optical Art Museum of Porrentruy (POPA), Switzerland, and Marseille's MUCEM.
