Philippe Balayn is a contemporary French sculptor. Combining humor, poetry and realism in a style strongly influenced by comics, Philippe Balayn creates unique pieces in papier-mâché. His sculptures and bas-reliefs are inspired by nature and what man has done with it to bring a note of optimism to our daily lives.

The practice of sculpture imposed itself about fifteen years ago following a trip to the United States and the encounter with a naturalized swordfish. Allowing to combine the expressions of drawing and from comics to more classic sculptures, the papier-mâché technique has enabled Philippe Balayn to develop an original style. His sculptures are initially inspired by nature and the animal world in all its forms. From the living (marlins, swordfish, rhinos, hippos, cats) to the least living (canned sardines, mackerel, cod).

Philippe Balayn was born in 1961, in France. He was exhibited all over France and in New York. Since 2008 he has been a Member of Ateliers d'Art de France.
