Azat Pogosian was born on July 29, 1961 in a small, isolated village in Armenia, although his birth was officially registered 34 days later on September 1, 1961. His childhood was marked by a move at the age of 3 to the city of Yerevan, where he received his primary, secondary and higher education.

The school years remained in his memory as a boring time, mainly due to the ideological indoctrination of the Soviet era. Teachers were often seen as authoritarian and conservative figures. However, Azat found his escape in the drawing class and in wilderness adventures with his friends. His memories of this time also include reading the book "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", which fueled his desire to live a life as adventurous as the main character.

At the age of 18, he was called up for compulsory military service in Russia, where he served for two years in the Red Army.

In 1981, he returned to Armenia and continued his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Pedagogical University. He graduated as a Fine Arts Teacher five years later and taught at the Yerevan High School of Fine Arts for two years. Subsequently, he worked as a graphic designer in an advertising agency.

In 1991, Azat Pogosian left Armenia for France, where he settled in Paris. Since 2007, he has lived in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, where he devotes himself intensely to painting, photography and video. His artistic journey reflects a personal and creative journey that has been shaped by his life experience in Armenia, Russia and France.
