Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a French writer, poet, and aviator, best known for his novella "The Little Prince" ("Le Petit Prince"), which has become one of the most translated and best-selling books in the world. Born in Lyon, France, in 1900, Saint-Exupéry developed a passion for aviation at an early age and began flying as a young man.

During his career as a pilot, Saint-Exupéry worked for pioneering French aviation companies, including Aéropostale, where he flew mail routes across the Sahara Desert and South America. His experiences as a pilot provided inspiration for many of his literary works, including his memoir "Wind, Sand and Stars" ("Terre des hommes"), which won the Prix Femina in 1939.

Saint-Exupéry's most famous work, "The Little Prince," was published in 1943 during World War II. The novella tells the story of a young prince who travels from planet to planet, encountering various characters and learning profound life lessons along the way. Through its simple yet profound narrative, "The Little Prince" explores themes of love, friendship, loneliness, and the human condition, capturing the hearts of readers of all ages.

Tragically, Saint-Exupéry's life was cut short when he disappeared while flying a reconnaissance mission over the Mediterranean Sea in 1944. His plane was never found, and his death remains a mystery. Despite his untimely passing, Saint-Exupéry's legacy lives on through his timeless literary works, which continue to inspire and enchant readers around the world.

In January 2014, the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City presented a significant three-month exhibition titled "The Little Prince: A New York Story." Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the novella's publication, the exhibition showcased numerous original manuscript pages, preliminary drawings, and watercolor paintings by Saint-Exupéry, providing insight into his creative writing methods.
