This is a series inspired by various trips to Australia and the result of several residencies in Italy. I particularly focused on the mini-world of rock pools, waterfalls, rivers and the ocean., all of which I am drawn to because it is so mesmerising to view the water patterns, the changing of forms, shapes and colour as it moves about. I am drawn to the energetic power of water, the connection it holds to our well being, the life giving force and the transformative journey from bubble to foam, to droplet to rain, to ice and crystals. In creating these diverse artworks, I realise the fragile its a realm that is serene as well as violent. This series is a testament to the endless possibilities that water represents.
Why am I so obsessed with rockpools and rivers? When you look at it in another perspective, it seems like there is another micro world in play here. It is a special place where I appreciate the precious moments of connection with the origins of life and nature. The marine life in rockpools go through challenges just like we do, however, their conditions are more dangerous and unstable. The pushing, shoving, thrashing from the tidal waves, then the exposure to varying temperatures, not forgetting the hazardous weather patterns: wind, rain and sun.
There is also beauty of colour, form and pattern: the rock striations, the cracks and crevices filled in with an array of sea shells, barnacles and other micro organisms. I am mesmerized by the transient quality of this world.

Biography
Ann Dunbar
Ann Dunbar, originally from England, was born in Faberstown, Hampshire, in 1953. She currently resides and works as an accomplished painter in France.With three decades of artistic experience and aesthetic exploration, Ann has honed her skills in the delicate art of watercolor, seamlessly blending the rich tradition of English embroidery onto paper canvases.Her unique approach involves layering fine threads of cotton and silk alongside paint, imbuing her artworks with an added dimension, creating a captivating interplay of colorful reflections that dance with changing light and the viewer's gaze.
Experience and Achievements
Ann's journey through the world of art began with a degree in Education from the University of Southbank in London in 1975. She pursued her passion further, graduating with honors from the School of Fine Arts at Surrey. Her dedication to the arts extended into the realm of education. She served as a professor of applied arts in England for an impressive 16 years.Notably, Ann Dunbar has been recognized and included in the prestigious Larousse directory of artist ratings since 2005. Her professional artistic journey continues to flourish in France, marked by numerous publications and official accolades.
Among her recent achievements, she was awarded the Vermeil Medal by the Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Letters in Paris in 2022. In 2016, her exceptional work earned her the Gold Medal at the International Artcomexpo.com exhibition in Oslo, Norway. Ann's masterpieces can be admired at several esteemed galleries across the globe, including the Shoalhaven Gallery in New South Wales, Australia, G&C Agent, United Kingdom, and China. Her unique fusion of watercolors and embroidery continues to captivate art enthusiasts worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the world of contemporary art

Vous découvrirez une sélection de ses toiles mise en scène, "comme à la maison" au sein de La Boutique Appart'. Il y a plusieurs année j'ai eu un coup de foudre pour son univers poétique, floral ou aquatique et sa technique toute particulière de broder ses toiles ! La sensation de profondeur et l'éclat des motifs est intense. Je suis tellement heureuse de partager avec vous son art et de vous présenter ses oeuvres à La Boutique Appart' à Versailles.

Ann Dunbar est une artiste britannique primée en arts mixtes titulaire d'un diplôme en art (West Surrey College of Art) et d'un diplôme de professeur à la Southbank University. Depuis qu'elle a déménagé définitivement en France en 1996, elle a participé à 45 expositions personnelles et 120 expositions de groupe à travers le monde aux UK, à Hong Kong, en Chine, à l'Ecole de Paris et au Japon.
Récemment, Ann a reçu un prix NFT du Biancoscuro Art Contest 2022, ainsi que le trophée "artiste de l'année" de l'ArtExpo, la "Médaille de vermeil 2022" de l'Académie Arts-science-Lettres à Paris, la médaille de bronze (Artlookone) France, et le prix "Collectors Vision" International Award 2021 du Contemporary Art Curator Magazine aux États-Unis, son 56e prix au cours de sa carrière.
Ann est membre de la Fondation Taylor à Paris et sponsor de TAFA (Fibre Arts,USA Technique).
Avec un parcours artistique remarquable s'étendant sur plus de trois décennies, Ann s'est consacré à l'art délicat de l'aquarelle. Ce qui la distingue est sa fusion ingénieuse de la riche tradition anglaise de la broderie sur papier avec le médium éthéré de la peinture. En superposant habilement de fins fils de coton et de soie aux côtés de ses coups de pinceau, Ann insuffle de la vie à ses œuvres d'art, ajoutant une dimension enchanteresse qui danse avec la lumière changeante et captive le regard du spectateur 🌸

Art never stops
Spring in full flow. 15X15cm Just a note to let you know that all is well in my studio. There are some exciting things happening , my artwork will be promoted and published on various international art platforms.
I am taking part in an international exhibition featured online called "Infinite Dreams", organised by Art Curator Magazine. It will be online from 3rd February until 1st June 2021. contemporaryartcuratormagazine.com My new work, beached combed 1 (below ) and 2 will be featured., along with other three recent works inspired by rockpools.

I am working at a steady pace, with creating some new bigger works to enlarge my luxurious rockpool collection, with the intention of exhibiting them in 2022., and as a spin off, I have interesting ideas to produce semi abstracts based on my textural observations of walls and stone surfaces. These will have fantastic effects as I will be mixing metallic acrylics to water colour. By 1st March, these should be ready for release on my web page shop.

From 1st April, I will start on another series with Spring in the air. These will be smaller pieces on promotion and available to my followers in mid- May, the theme " birds, butterflies and blooms".

Expo solo of Ann's recent work, celebrating her 23 years in France. She will present alongside some bigger works, new small works 23x30cm with her favourite views and places in France. wild prairies, gardens and flower presentations which exudes her emotive feeling with the character of French culture and its flamboyant, romantic and charming influence on her unique work.

I will grace the walls with a selection embroidered watercolours,in various formats which all have the common theme of " yellow maples or pine in autumn". Yellow, one of my favourite colours which signify positiveness, happiness and good, energetic vibrations.

"To cast in bronze is forever! An ethereal image becomes lasting and able to withstand the elements. With these qualities, I aim to show my subjects in a new light: their hidden power or strength is quietly displayed.
The lost wax sculptures are inspired by the relationship between strength and beauty found in animals and humankind"

Dear friends and fans , I am ready for some amazing art projects in 2019. What a buzz!!!- the year starts with a bang and my art is showcased in a luxury magazine published this January in the UK.
It is magic working with threads, they take on a new perspective when worked in any fashion, but with embroidering, some extra special is happening! Not only are we creating something beautiful made by hand from imagination, but we are also participating in historic traditions tens of thousands of years old. You are not only creating art for your soul and for your future generations, you are embodying the work of our ancestors.. How humbling it is to learn that an embroidered artwork is made with love, passion, patience and persistence and the final result will be for an enduring and eternal pleasure to keep hold on for future generations too. Look at this article which appears in the double issue "The Art of Design and The Art of Luxury" magazine which describes why I think embroidery empowers and adds value to my water colours - its my "why" and "what for", as well as "where" I look for inspiration. These thoughts keep me working and feeling appreciative,even with all the effort involved. Its worthwhile.

Start a new leaf.
A new year, new fresh ideas and resolutions all amounts to starting a new "leaf". My first creation 2017, "Leaf Mandala" 20x20cm embroidery on hologrammic paper, which embodies meaning of energy, growth, hope, journeys, reflection and symmetry in harmony, are points which will guide us to do the best we can, whatever we want and need, it is all down to each and every individual.
We are modelled by are thoughts: we become what we think. As an artist, thoughts and images are imagined in our minds, emerging from the subconscious just like the feelings in our hearts reach the surface, we produce our artwork, our internal vision, our quest for inspiration and direction with colour, form, texture and shape, we create like going through mystical journey, not knowing where it is taking us. What will be the result? The life as an artist is like a quest, a constant search of personal expression, a personal response to what we have seen,experienced, what we have dreamt,books we have read, places we have seen, people we have met. Wow what a combination, what a responsibility, what an amazing life we have with its up and downs, like the flow of the tides, the waxing and waning of the moon, the phases of time and the whole movement in the cosmos. All this makes you feel humbled and privileged.
A fresh new leaf of life where time is to be spent as you want and then leads you to where you have to be and go. Artists we can be our own guide, our own self, our own being, we are unique and we all have our place here to offer joy, peace, hope and glory through our art. Art is LIFE.
