The figurative, the certain, the determined, the defined. I leave it hanging by a thread. I first put shapes and colors on the panel, more or less as I usually do, but I don't try to work them out in a targeted manner. Why should I clarify, improve, elaborate or detail them?
Still, I think they can refer to something that can be seen around us, such as a landscape, or a special time of day, like the golden hour. How can I provide shape and color with minimal instructions to resemble something? And do they still do what I ask them? Or would they rather go their own way?

I have been an independent artist for over 10 years now.

For me painting is a learning process in itself. I always reach a little further than I can. I'm always looking for ways to do things differently. If I keep doing that, it's never going to be a trick.

I fight the force of habit in my way of working. Because I see it everywhere: habits are easily adopted in a creative process. Which then is not so creative anymore.

Simple things in nature inspire me the most: a breaking wave on the beach, a wilted flower in the garden, an autumn tree in the forest.

Sometimes there is an invisible third hand that paints along. Call it flow. Or inspiration. I cannot force this invisible hand to cooperate. When it happens, it always results in a painting that I am satisfied with.

I have my own studio and art gallery in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from where I sold over 80 artworks through the years. I also like to exhibit at other locations.
